Is an elastomeric membrane the best option for you?

Is an elastomeric membrane the best option for you?

Do you need to replace the roof of your home? It is an important investment that requires judicious choices. To do so, you must choose the right materials and have the work done by qualified professionals.

For what type of roof?

The risks of infiltration are high for a flat roof or a roof with a slight slope. This is why the elastomeric membrane is an excellent choice for sleeping easily for at least 35 years.

Why choose an elastomeric membrane?

1- When it’s welded, it doesn’t let anything through.

You know that a leaking roof is more than a roof problem. Complications of infiltration and mold inside can occur relatively quickly. It isn’t good for your finances and your health. The elastomeric membrane meets this requirement because the pieces are welded together with a blowtorch, leaving no chance for water infiltration.

2- Because you want a roof for at least 30 years.

The elastomeric membrane has a life expectancy of 30 years (even up to 50 years if the roof is well-ventilated), as opposed to a maximum of 20 years for gravel and asphalt.

3- Because you have other things to do than maintain your roof.

The elastomeric membrane requires little or no maintenance. You need to take a look at it once or twice a year to make sure, for example, that a fallen branch has not pierced it.

How much will it cost you?

Obviously, the cost of re-roofing with an elastomeric membrane is a little higher, but it is a profitable investment in the long run. An elastomeric membrane can cost less than any other material, amortized for 30 years. If you are convinced that an elastomeric membrane is the right product for you, make sure to check on the quality. It will only increase the value of your home.

How do you install a membrane?

Several necessary steps are required to maximize your investment. Of course, older buildings often need to have an interior makeover before installing the membrane itself. Here are the necessary steps for a roof to be ready to face any weather conditions. (See our team at work!)

Step 1:
Remove old siding, and poor insulation and repair damaged or improperly installed structural members.

Step 2:
Insulate the attic with two layers of polyurethane.

Step 3:
Ensure that the attic is properly ventilated. If not, the situation must be corrected.

Step 4:
Place 5/8″ tongue-and-groove plywood over the entire roof.

Step 5:
Install fireproof support panels. It helps prevent fire when installing membranes with a flashlight and complies with new fire standards.

Step 6:
Installation of fascias, flashings, and the first membrane. Our roofers give more sensitive areas such as chimneys and skylights special and careful attention.

Step 7:
The final step: Installation of the final elastomeric membrane.

Any warranties?

Take note that a new roof is guaranteed for several years. However, be careful if you add new installations that require modifications to the roof. For example, the addition of a chimney or cable television. If you damage your roof by hammering in a nail or any other object, it may no longer be watertight. It would be best if you always asked your roofer for advice BEFORE doing anything that would make your roof vulnerable. This way, you will respect your warranty and avoid unpleasant surprises.

At Toiture Union, our work is meticulously executed. Our roofers are experienced and trained to perform the work according to the latest standards.
